PERIODONTAL TREATMENT
Periodontics is the specialty of dentistry dealing with gums and gum diseases, including bone loss and loss of tooth stability.
Gum disease is the most common infection throughout the world. Some gingival inflammation is present in most individuals often unaware there are problems until the disease is fairly advanced. As disease progresses there is loss of bone supporting the teeth so that the teeth may become loose, progressing to tooth loss.
Here at LATCHFORD AND LATCHFORD Nikos, our periodontist will carefully examine and record the periodontal status. The first stage of treatment usually starts with root debridement, often called deep cleaning, and is usually carried out with local anaesthetic. After about 6 to 8 weeks reassessment shows the improvements of this initial treatment. Many treatments just need maintenance, but more advanced gum disease requires more specialised techniques for treatment, which may involve surgical intervention.
In addition to treating gum disease, Periodontists also carry out cosmetic treatments, from covering recessions to improving the shape and contour of gums to improve your smile.
